Black Friday finds and new project brewing

While most people were shopping for TVs at Walmart, I headed straight to my local JoAnn's fabric store with a 25% off entire purchase coupon. My goal was to find the yarn to make something like this:

It's a dress/tunic I stumbled upon while walking through Macy's in early October. It stopped me dead in my tracks. I am generally a sucker for knit dresses, but this one caught my attention because I liked the drape and the simple design.

I thought this would be nice worked in the round from the top down. I had been keeping an eye out for the right yarn ever since. My main issue was, as usual, to find affordable, easy to maintain yarn that is not bulky. Even on a small frame, a knit dress in sport weight or above is hard to pull off.

I was in luck at JoAnn's. They were having a 50% off sale on their baby yarn. I lamented in my post on knitting on a budget that I wished baby yarn came in adult colors. It has the right weight for clothing, is easy to maintain, and affordable. My wish is fulfilled. If one looks, there are some colors adults can wear. This is what I ended up buying.

I wanted more of the variegated yarn, but they were out. I had to complete with matching solid color yarn. I am going to alternate rows to get the extra mile out of my variegated yarn. The Sashay yarn ball I got because it was on sale too. I have had my eye on this particular color for some time. For what I intend to do with it, see my post on a stylish ruffle scarf.

I am going through a phase of light neutrals. Light neutrals for winter were popular in Japan and Korea a couple winters ago. I still see it in Korean dramas. Actresses will wear light neutral color coats or pair a winter outfit with light neutral nylons, or generally mix black and light neutrals.
