1940's Vintage lace doily
This is a doily I first finished nearly 15 years ago, shortly after I started knitting again (after a hiatus through my teenage and young adult years). At the time, as I was developing my techniques, I learned about lace knitting. It started by working on patterns that had holes in them, and then I gravitated to ever thinner thread. This was my first major thin thread lace knitting project.
Over the years, our Miu-Miu grew old and passed away and the doily also aged. I gave it a second life by unraveling it down to where the thread had broken and re-knitting it. It's like new again, except not quite as white.
The pattern I used is still freely available on the internet, and has even been charted. Back when I downloaded the pattern, it wasn't, and there were a few errors in the written instructions. I learned a lot by charting it myself and fixing the errors.

My first large doily shortly after I finished it in 2003, with Miu-Miu (2002-2012), still a youth at the time. He insisted on being in the picture and posed for the camera. |
