Teal blazer I - design

For some time now, I've wanted to do two things: 1) try something teal in my wardrobe and 2) make a blazer style, warm cover-up. Living in a Northern climate and being of a cold constitution, I can always use more of those. In a shopping trip to the yarn store a few weeks ago (or is it months?) I finally found the right yarn.

I have been looking at tweed blazers for inspiration, such as this one:

The blazer sells for 700 Australian dollars. I am not sure what that is in US dollars, but probably a lot. All I need is the concept. Elements I am looking to use:
  • The shape. Cropped, fitted with simple lines, darts in the back.
  • Pockets, even if fake
  • The trim, including around the wrists. For now I am thinking gold.
  • The loop closures. If I can find something Asian style, the better. Or maybe make my own.
  • The lining

Some of these elements are definitely not part of a regular knitting pattern, but I am also learning how to sew. Adding trim is completely within my skill set, and lining the blazer may be a good way to practice garment construction (I have done a lot of alterations, but haven't built anything from scratch). Doing a lining would be good practice, as I can use inexpensive fabric and if it's not pretty, only I will know.
