Berroco skirt turned poncho

I am in winter knitting mode, as I will be moving back up North. My latest project is a skirt from Berroco (kiltie).

As usual, I made my modifications (details here, as a great illustration of adapting to size and gauge). I used Red Heart sports weight yarn instead of the Berroco yarn. I made the skirt smaller,
shorter, and added a fringe. Upon completion however, I wasn't happy with the way the skirt hung. It looked sloppy.

On hindsight, one can tell from the model picture that this skirt doesn't hang right. The model makes it look all right with her extremely unnatural pose.

What do do? I like the style and the drape. No biggie. It makes a cute poncho. That is one piece I will not be recycling soon.

This pattern can probably still work as a skirt, but one would have to do fewer increases. Try it with increasing every other right side row instead of every right side row (that is to say every 4 rounds instead of every other round - in the round, there is no RS row). Or use a stiffer weave, by switching to smaller needles or choosing a yarn that isn't as "soft".

I still have some of that chocolate yarn left, so I am thinking about trying my hand at a skirt again. The yarn has the right kind of drape for that. I am going to use my (self proclaimed) classic skirt pattern. I will probably go for just-above-the-knee this time, or perhaps longer, depending upon how much yarn I have left - the perks of a skirt worked from the top down. And do a ribbed bottom in the same color as the body of the skirt.
