More design ideas!

I just received a treasure trove of knitting patterns from a friend who has regretfully given up on knitting, at least for now. She keeps busy as a scientist, a teacher, a mother, and an artist.

Lots of useful tips and methods, and then these two patterns that caught my interest:

Yes, I would knit and wear the second one (anyone guess the vintage year?). Classic 1987 pointed bodice with ruffle bottom to wear with a pencil skirt. I used to own a floral print dress cut this way (regretfully or thankfully no picture to show). The 1980's and early 1990's where not a happy decade or two in terms of fashion, especially for small frames. But that top is elegant and flattering. It creates a narrow waist and hides problem areas. The tough part would probably be to find the proper bottom to wear with it. In terms of technique, I think it will be interesting to experiment with the design. It can't be too different from my ruffle knit skirt.

The skirt is vintage 2008. The small pleats give it away. I love little pleats at the bottom of skirts. My favorite skirt suit is cut that way. It's from the same era. Cute and subtle details are timeless.  I may go with a longer knit skirt, and I may use pleats similar to my skirt suit instead. The skirt is knitted with chunky yarn and I am not sure that is what I am going to do. Chunky yarn quickly adds inches around one's waist and most of us do not need extra inches in that area.

When my Mom saw this picture, she immediately sent me dark grey stockings, commenting that with a light grey suit, that was the proper stocking to wear. It's so good to have a half French mother.
