Mini purse
Being passionate about wearing feminine clothing means that very often I do not have any pockets. An excellent use of leftover yarn is to knit or crochet mini-purses that can act as a external pockets. I made one matching the romantic raglan sweater I finished recently.
Such a small purse works up in an evening or two and requires very little skill. It is made from a single band knitted mostly in garter stitch. The band ends with a pointy end for the front flap. At the end it gets folded to form the mini-purse.
Cast on the desired number of stitches (in my case it was 17, for a purse that is 10 cm wide. Work the front in garter stitch, then switch to stockinette for three rows before continuing with the back panel in garter stitch again. The few rows of stockinette stitch allow for the purse to easily fold at the bottom. The wrong side of the stockinette should show on the outside of the purse and the right side of the stockinette stitch will be inside.
Work up the back to be of the same height as the front, then switch to stockinette stitch again for 3 rows. Switch back to garter stitch. Make sure this second set of stockinette rows matches the set you worked out for the bottom of the purse (wrong side stockinette on the same side of the work). Work two or three rows of garter. Your are now working on the front flap. Decrease one stitch on each side every other row until you have fewer than 5 stitches left. Bind off the remaining stitches.
Fold the purse (kind of like an envelope) and sew the sides together. Tuck in any loose ends. Sew a small button or a bead (I chose a pearl) on the front of the purse to act as a button. If the button or bead is small enough, it can go through the knitting without having to specifically make an eyelet in the flap. If you want to use a larger button, then you need to plan on making an eyelet in the front flap for that button to go through.
Use a doubled up long piece of the same yarn (three to four times the length of the finished length of the strap) to make a strap, using a crochet chain.
