Teal blazer IV - pattern drafting - Front panels
The front panels are modeled off the back panel, without the dart shaping, and with a different shaping at the neck line.
For one piece:
Cast on half the number of stitches you had for the back panel, and work the bottom the same way. Work following side shaping of back until you reach the armholes. Mirror the shaping for the armholes. As soon as you worked all the decreases for the armholes, it is time to start shaping the neckline.
Count how many stitches there are left on the needles (for me, that was 31).
Subtract the number of stitches you used for the shoulder seams for the back (for me, that was 12).
31-12 = 19. Those 19 stitches need to be bound off to form the round neckline.
If you want to be scientific about it, trace out the neckline on the back panel to determine how to do the decreases (my preferred method).
Doing that, I was able to come up with the following pattern for the neckline (BO = Bound Off):
1 x BO 6
1 x BO 4
3 x BO 2
3 more decreases of 1 on each side, every subsequent RS row.
Total decreased = 19.
Continue with the stitches left on the needles until the armhole reaches the same height as for the back. BO shoulder the same way as for the back.

The front panels, with finishing (a later post, I am ahead on the knitting, behind on the blogging). I left the last ball of yarn attached, thinking I might use that yarn to finish the neckline. |
