Alteration - Indian dress Part 4
I got some yellow thread at the store yesterday and was able to continue work on the dress. I top stitched the princess seams and then worked on finishing the armholes, a slow and challenging process. But I got through most of it.

Close up of the finished princess seam and armhole. Not too shabby for my skill level. |
Finishing the armholes involved two rows of precise and short baste stitching. One to attache the lace border to the armhole and other to attach the bias tape to the whole thing. Since I do not have a set of double needles for my sewing machine that have the right spacing for the double row of stitching at the armhole, I had to work two separate rows of top stitching. It's not perfect all around and I also had to attach a few things with hand stitching, but the result is completely wearable. I started with the back of the armholes so in case I screwed up, it would be less visible.
I took a break from the finishing work by prepping the skirt. There are two layers for the skirt that need to be sewn to the bodice as a unit that got separated when I deconstructed the dress. I am not confident enough to hold both layers together while attaching them to the bodice so I machine basted the two layers together. I also freshened up the top by cutting off extra threads and making a clean straight edge to join with the bodice.
I still have one armhole to finish and a bit more finishing to do on the bodice before attaching it to the skirt.
